In this video you can see how SprutCAM X Robot CAM software can be used to perform robotic hot wire cutting. Our customer company Nioform from Sweden uses robotic hot wire cutting to quickly remove waste material when working on artistic objects made of polystyrene. In this particular instance, the work is done for the Swedish artist Ebba Bohlin.
Hot wire robotic cutting is a process of cutting materials such as foam, polystyrene, and similar materials using a robotic arm equipped with a heated wire. The wire is heated to a high temperature (400-500°C) using an electric current, and then the robot arm moves the wire through the material, melting and cutting it as it goes. This process is often used in manufacturing and prototyping to create precise shapes and designs quickly and efficiently.
CAM systems can be used to program robotic hot wire cutting. CAM software can optimize the cutting path to minimize waste and ensure accuracy. This automation reduces the need for manual intervention, resulting in faster and more efficient production.
