Another robot milling example. Now it’s a face project from niooform.se<\/a> company.<\/p>\n

“Here begins a new project for @ateljejohanstrom where a face will be cast in iron. It is a little more tricky than normal because the model must be made thin, about 30-40 mm.
\nJohan has produced an original in plaster (about 20 cm long) which I scanned through photogrammetry. Special software is used to analyze a couple of hundred photographs of the original at different angles. After a few hours of calculations, you get a three-dimensional model to work on.
\nWhile the computer is counting on the pictures, I work with subject preparation, ie cutting large raw blocks into smaller pieces that fit the model I am going to mill. I try to reduce the number of glues, partly because it takes time, but also to avoid hard joints in the finished surface. At the same time, I try to minimize spills on the blocks, so it gets a little confusing sometimes. The pieces also need to be face-milled to get good installation and better bite in the gluing.
\nI glue the blocks only where it is needed to reduce the amount of glue, but also because I want to rough cut with thread and it works poorly through glue joints. This is not nuclear physics – just load straps, grills, and screws to keep things in place during curing.
\nNext, there will be a 3D fix to produce a good milling surface. Stay tuned.<\/p>\n

“H\u00e4r b\u00f6rjar ett nytt projekt f\u00f6r\u00a0@ateljejohanstrom<\/a> d\u00e4r ett ansikte ska gjutas i j\u00e4rn. Det \u00e4r lite mer trix \u00e4n normalt eftersom modellen m\u00e5ste g\u00f6ras tunn, omkring 30-40 mm.
\nJohan har tagit fram ett original i gips (ca 20 cm l\u00e5ngt) som jag scannat genom fotogrammetri. S\u00e4rskild mjukvara anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att analysera ett par hundra fotografier av originalet i olika vinklar. Efter n\u00e5gra timmars ber\u00e4kningar f\u00e5r man en tredimensionell modell att arbeta vidare med.
\nUnder tiden datorn r\u00e4knar p\u00e5 bilderna jobbar jag med \u00e4mnesberedning, dvs att kapa stora r\u00e5block till mindre bitar som passar modellen jag ska fr\u00e4sa. Jag f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker minska antalet limningar, dels f\u00f6r att det tar tid, men ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6r att slippa h\u00e5rda skarvar i den f\u00e4rdiga ytan. Samtidigt f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker jag minimera spill p\u00e5 blocken, s\u00e5 det blir lite pusslande ibland. Bitarna beh\u00f6ver \u00e4ven planfr\u00e4sas f\u00f6r att f\u00e5 bra anl\u00e4ggning och b\u00e4ttre bett i limningen.
\nBlocken limmar jag bara d\u00e4r det beh\u00f6vs f\u00f6r att minska m\u00e4ngden lim, men ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6r att jag vill grovsk\u00e4ra med tr\u00e5d och det funkar d\u00e5ligt genom limskarvar. Det h\u00e4r \u00e4r ingen k\u00e4rnfysik – bara lastremmar, grillpinnar och skruv f\u00f6r att h\u00e5lla saker p\u00e5 plats under h\u00e4rdning.
